Sierra at Tahoe ski resort is one of the easier resorts to access from Sacramento and the Bay area. The ski area is shuttle ride away from the accommodation but there are some great day facilities available and so this is no hardship. This can mean at weekends, especially on blue sky days the resort can be busy, however, it is still a great location as the although busy the lifts system is well managed and efficient and so queues in neighbouring resorts may be even longer.
Sierra at Tahoe is renowned as a great family friendly and beginners orientated day resort. Experts wont be particularly challenged on any of Sierras ski trails, so they need to head for some free-riding through the trees, but Intermediates will enjoy this resort as there is a lot for them to explore. Sierra has a relaxed vibe and tends to be less expensive, which does differentiate it from many of its flashier neighbours. This a friendly resort
The resort has a good snow record, with a high level of snowfall but it is worth checking conditions before travelling as it does suffer from the occasional drought. Sierra has a high base at 2024m so when snow does fall it tends to be retained, the peak is at 2698m so the altitude range is not massive, but it is still perfectly adequate to ensure there are some good length ski trails.
On the mountain the facilities at the base are good and provide everything you need for a good day on the slopes. In addition, we recommend stopping and eating at the 360 restaurant at the top of the mountain, the smokehouse food is good and the views of lake Tahoe are amazing.
Most visitors to Sierra at Tahoe stay in South Lake Tahoe or they opt for the Stateline and take advantage of Nevadas casinos. The accommodation here is varied and plentiful and there is every type of entertainment on offer.
