Breckenridge ski resort is an authentic American frontier town turned ski resort, as such Breckenridge has arguably more charm than many other resorts. The resort combines top class skiing with a casual and friendly welcome as well as world class resort facilities. Breckenridge is an old mining town and lots of buildings in the resorts centre are authentic victorian buildings that have been well maintained and provide an impressive backdrop to the town.

The skiing here can only be classified as very good, skiers can take the 2 seater Imperial lift which whisks them up to 12,840 ft (3,914m) which is actually the highest ski lift point in North America. Breckenridge ski area has a good altitude range, skiers can ski down from the top of Imperial to the resort on a 3.8 mile run, which is really long by US standards. There is a real range of slopes and piste types and the lift network is efficient. Many of the sk trails in Breckenridge are regularly groomed, and you can nearly always find great snow conditions due to the altitude range of this resort

The resort has a reputation for great service and good accommodation as well as great skiing. The altitude range is large and high, so snow conditions are very good. Much of the accommodation here is ‘ski-to-door’ and so getting around on skis is usually very easy. In addition, it should be noted, there is a real range of accommodation on offer, some of Breckenridge’s flashier neighbours tend to cater for a more affluent crown, but at Breckenridge you can find some affordable accommodation on offer.

This is a popular resort which pulls big crowds, especially when conditions are good and at weekends, so be prepared for the occasional queue. The lift system is well managed and maintained and there are some very speedy lifts to help keep queues short. The vast natural levels of snowfall are supplemented by a battery of snow canons, so when snow is in short supply, you can still cover a lot of the terrain.

Breckenridge is easily accessed from Denver, which is about 2 hours drive away, so this is a plus in the sense its easy to get to, but bear in mind that this makes it easier for everyone else to get there as well.

Another positive, is the fact that Breckenridge’s popularity means that there is a real range of restaurants, bars and apres entertainment on offer. If you are looking for a resort where you know there will be a party and you also want to explore a large ski area, with good conditions, good facilities at a reasonable price, Breckenridge is perfect.
