Val d'Isere ski resort is one of Frances most famous and prestigious skiing destinations. The resort has a reputation for brilliant skiing and rather flash, exclusive Apres parties. Val d'Isere is a great place to ski and for those that worry about such things a great place to be seen skiing. The resort is large but well laid out with a good range of designer stores, bars and restaurants. Val d'Isere is now a large resort but at its heart is ana uthentic alpine village with a rich and long history. The accomodation here varies from exclusive to budget, Val d'Isere has plenty of 4 and 5 star accomodation, but also a range of apartments and hostels that enable visitors to visit this prestigous resort but on a budget. The Apres is legendary and this is a fun place to be at the end of a day’s ski with a glass of champagne in hand. On the slopes the skiing is world class, Val d"Isere has hosted the Olympics and is a regular on the FIS World Cup circuit. We've categorised the ski area as large with over 150km of pistes, however, this only part of the story as Val d'Isere is part of the Espace Killy and in reality, once you combine Tignes the area is in excess of 300km of slopes with an altitude range very close to 2km. The high altitude range ensures there is nearly always access to great snow conditions and so this makes the resort popular with skiers of all abilities. Val d'Isere is the vibrant and fashionable heart of Espace Killy, but there also other places to stay which are less expensive. Tignes provides purpose built mountain accomodation or further down into the valley there is also Le Fornet and La Daille, these resorts tend to have less in the way of nightlife and Apres but are still excellent resorts to find accomodation.
