Saint Gervais ski resort, also known as the town of St Gervais Mont-Blanc, is a small but well-equipped ski resort which sits on the edge of the largest part of the Domaine Evasion ski area. The area has a variety of slopes and suits intermediates well. Direct access to a large ski area is possible but for those who want to venture further afield there is also the ski area above Les Contamines a very short bus ride away which is included within this lift network. Having said this, the Saint Gervais piste map shows that there is a direct gondola ski lift called “Saint Gervais Bettex” which runs to Le Bettex ski area. Here there is a beginner ski area, as well as ski hire, cafes, and restaurants. You can also easily access the most popular parts of the Domaine Evasion ski area from this point. La Folie Douce Saint Gervais – Megève is only a couple of chairlifts away, which marks the centre of the 185-piste Domaine Evasion ski area. One point to note is that the ski lift in Saint Gervais itself is not ski in – ski out – you must remove your skis and there is a nearby road to cross. However, it is still convenient.

For Beginners, although the only ski run down to the village of Saint Gervais Mont-Blanc is marked as a red run on the Saint Gervais piste map, as mentioned the Le Bettex ski area is a great place for beginners to learn. Learners can use the Saint Gervais Bettex gondola to reach this area, and there are a variety of green and blue ski runs here. There is also the “Ecole” ski area here, designed for young children and the Chateluy green run is nearby, which is an excellent starting point for most skiers. Outside of Megeve, this is one of the best places in the Domaine Evasion ski area for beginners to start out. Overall, the wider ski area is perfect for first time skiers, as the slopes are generally wide and gentle, with a few snow parks and designated learner areas dotted about the ski network.

Intermediates have chosen wisely if visiting Saint Gervais ski resort for a week or so. It does take a lift or two to reach the best pistes, but once there the Domaine Evasion ski area is packed with fantastic on and off piste skiing, accompanied with some excellent views and glimpses of Mont Blanc in the distance. “Mont Joux 2” ski lift is a good base for intermediates, as it links multiple red pistes together. In addition, the ski lift runs to La Folie Douce Saint Gervais – one of the best apres ski locations in the area. Be careful though, is this area can get very busty around 4pm, if there are events on at La Folie, so beginner skiers might want to avoid that. Heading down to the town of Megeve will provide another string of excellent blue and red pistes.

Experts and advanced skiers should take advantage of the off piste skiing on the other side of the resort, around the Cote 2000 ski lift where a black piste called “marmotte” opens out to a great area of off piste skiing. It does take a while to get to via various lifts and pistes, but it is worth the journey for some quiet, scenic, and thrilling skiing. Here there is also a the well-known Auberge de la Côte 2000 restaurant, a great place for a spot of lunch.

Overall, Saint Gervais itself is not the most visited of ski resorts compared to the more popular nearby town of Megeve, but the town itself has everything needed for an enjoyable ski resort. It is accessible and enables access to the wider Domaine Evasion ski area – a great skiing domain for all abilities.
