Sauz d'Oulx is one of Italy's most popular and livelier resorts which attracts a younger crowd. The resort is located in northern Italy next to the French border on the western side of the Alps and is the largest destination within the Via Lattea (Mily Way) ski network.
The village is authentic and retains its alpine charm. There is a good selection of bars and restaurants in this pretty village with its pedestrianised centre as a focal point. Italian food is nearly always good whatever your budget and Suaz d’Oulx is no exception, you can opt. for basic but charming pizza restaurants or opt for truly sophisticated cuisines.
As the sun starts to warm the slopes apres activities start on the many bar terraces with fantastic views of the mountains. There is a lot of accommodation in this town including a variety of hotels and apartments on offer to suit most budgets.
There is a good range of slopes accessed easily from Sauz d’Oulx, but part of the attraction of Sauz d’Oulx is that it provides access to such a large ski area. The altitude range here is OK starting at 1357m and reaching a peak of 2840m. Accessing the whole ski region is usually possible throughout the whole season but it can get a bit slushy towards the bottom at the end of the season. The lift system is well managed, some lifts could do with an upgrade, but that’s all just part of the fun. On a day out you can cover a lot of mountain and even ski into Montgenevre in France. The Via Lattea is a great resort for intermediates on the piste. Experts need to venture off piste to be challenged here.
The snow record here is variable recently, but this is rarely an issue as the pistes are fully serviced with snow cannons and this makes coverage good throughout the season,
Getting to Sauz d’Oulx is easy if you can fly into Turin as it is only an hours drive away. Other airports are a bit further, but the resort is worth the drive and a very friendly and fun place to stay.
