Megeve is a popular and traditional alpine resort which attracts an affluent clientele it sits in the middle of the Domaine Evasion ski region which enables easy access to some varied and challenging runs as well as some beautiful pistes gliding through a beautiful landscape. Megeve is a medieval, cobbled street, car free village offering a vast amount of action both on the slopes and off. The village is traditional in feel with a great ambience and full of character. One of the oldest ski resorts, this area rivals some of the top spots in Europe.
Whilst the local ski area is perhaps more suited to beginners the vast ski area which can be accessed with the Mont Blanc lift pass, provides 448km of ski runs for the more adventurous including access to the famous Mont Blanc.
Megeve has 320km of trails over 3 main areas. The largest of areas is Mont d'Arbois to St Gervais. Rochebrune is exclusive to Megeve and Jaillet is shared with 2 further villages. These 3 areas together are known as Evasion mont Blanc. This in turn is only part of the ski pass Mont Blanc. This pass includes the Chamonix area. The ski area has many tree lined pistes as well as a large open area allowing for all types of skiing. The area is picturesque and has something to suit everyone’s taste.
For the more expert skier the Mont Blanc region provides the most challenging terrain with the infamous Vallee Blanche (with a guide) or ski off piste or go trekking. The modern cable cars and chair lifts have excellent capacity to carry a large amount of snow users up the slopes.
With the traditional high end feel of the area, snowboarding is not as readily accepted as in some other areas. That said, there are 2 snow parks as well as some good slopes encouraging snowboarders to visit this area.
Megeve's has a slightly more sophisticated Apres ski scene. There are numerous bars and restaurants including 4 night clubs, some with all night opening, as well as more exclusive piano bars and high end restaurants. There is also a casino, cinemas and bowling alley.
