Mammoth Mountain ski resort has the highest skiable point and is also one of the largest skiable areas in California. Although small by mega-resort European standards, there is still a lot to enjoy on Mammoth Mountain.
The main resort area is at a high altitude (2,469m) but the altitude range is still good with a peak of 3369m. Snow conditions on Mammoth mountain tend to be good throughout the season and snow is plentiful. Despite the fact the resort dates back to the 1950’s the lift network is nearly all modern, efficient and well managed.
There is a good range of pistes available at Mammoth Mountain with something to suit every skier. In addition, there is an abundance of terrain parks to keep experienced skiers challenged.
Back country skiing is a treat at Mammoth Mountain. The sheer size of the skiable area, means that despite the fact there are many groomed runs there is still lots of back-country skiing available of varying difficulty.
Cross country skiing is also popular at Mammoth Mountain and worth giving a go if you have not tried it before.
There are some great Bars and Restaurants on the slopes and in the resort so everyone is catered for, but as the resort accommodation is spread out there is no one single area to enjoy nightlife and it can be quiet during the week.
The accommodation in the resort ranges from good quality hotels and condos as well as well priced budget accommodation and although the accommodation is spread across a number of areas there is a laid-back feel to every part of the resort. Due to the high altitude much of the accommodation is ski-to-door
Mammoth Yosemite airport is very close, and so probably the best option, otherwise it’s a long drive from the west coast or Las vegas to Mammoth Mountain, but still worth every mile.
