Kicking Horse Mountain resort is an established large busy resort with a good reputation amongst experienced skiers.
The skiable area at Kicking Horse is large and varied. The majority of runs, located at the top of the mountain range are Diamond or Double-Diamond and suit experienced skiers well. As you skiers navigate towards the resort the terrain gets easier and intermediates will be happy to navigate the middle of the altitude range. Beginners are well served by the easiest runs towards the bottom of the altitude range, closest to the resort and it’s facilities.
There is a good altitude range here which provides some good long varied runs. The base is at or around 1200m, which is lower than some of the big name resorts in the area, irrespective of that snow-conditions tend to be very good throughout the season. Kicking Horse has a well deserved and good reputation for powder.
The lift network at Rocking Horse is sparse, the number of lifts is small when compared to the skiable area. Throughout the week this tends to not be a problem, however, when snow conditions are good, especially at weekends you can expect queues.
There are some fantastic opportunities here for back country skiing, but, be careful, the terrain is dangerous and so you will probably be best served to take a guide or at least know what you are doing and only do it, when the risk of avalanche is low and the conditions are perfect. This is a dangerous area for off-piste skiers. You have been warned!
Worth knowing, that there are some great slopes and runs to be accessed via Helicopter.
Most of the bar and restaurant action is in the resort, but visitors should visit the mountain top restaurant here, with its spectacular views.
Kicking Horse is a relatively small resort but it has a variety of good accommodation, welcoming bars and restaurants and all the facilities of a modern ski resort destination.
