Flaine ski resort is nestled in a ski bowl above the snow line and so ski to door, is nearly always possible throughout the ski seaeson. Flaine is approximately one hour and half hours from Geneva in the Grand-Massif ski network. The Grand Masif network is split into two broad areas, Villages and Flaine and you can purchase a lift pass for these areas separately or the whole region. The ski network is well managed and has a broad range of slopes and off-piste ski areas to challenge skiers of all abilities. Flaine is one France's most established and famous ski resorts as it is snow sure and has great access to the broader Grand-Massif ski region. Flaine is a modern resort planned and built in the 1960's it also is mostly pedestrianised, so despite being built in the 1960's it has genuine modern charm and enables many to ski to door. Flaine has some great quality restaurants both on the slopes and in the village, usually serving good quality local dishes. On the slopes there are plenty of terraces to sit and eat when the sun is shinning. The ski area around Flaine is varied. The resort sits in the tree lined area at the bottom of a bowl. Surrounding Flaine is a ridge which provides plenty of blue and red runs which provide some great quality snow and runs throughout the season. Those who wish to venture further afield cab choose between short challenging balck runs or a 16km blue run which winds down the mountain to the village of Sixt at an altitude of 760m, be warned it can get a bit slushy twoards the bottom of the mountain but there is some stunning scenery along the way.
