Big White ski resort in British Columbia is a large ski area with lots of runs to suit beginners and intermediate level skiers. The resort village is pedestrianised and friendly with lots of facilities for families. The combination of a great variety of relatively easy slopes and a car free village ensures this resort is incredibly popular with families. The jewel in Big White’s crown is that in addition to the suitability of the village and slopes to families much of the accommodation is ‘ski to door’.
On the slopes Big White has a lot to offer. There is a large acreage of slopes here many of which are groomed. The resort does have a lot of Green and Blue runs and two nursery areas within the village, however for those looking for a bigger challenge there are a good number of Black Runs (Canadian category equivalent to red in Europe) and a few Double Diamond Runs (equivalent to black in Europe) and so the resorts ski area does cater for the more experienced family members. Another factor to consider is Big White’s fantastic snow record. The resort markets itself on the quality of its snow! Beginners and intermediates looking for the thrill of skiing powder on easy gradient slopes will love Big White ski resort. The 16 lifts that cover Big Whites ski area are modern and fast and so queues are generally managed well even during the peak season period.
Big White is a well designed, albeit small village with all the facilities you would expect and need from a resort that caters for families including activities for kids as well as a number of bars and restaurants to enjoy some Apres ski. Accommodation is available at a variety of budget levels.
In terms of location Big White is a big drive from Calgary or Vancouver, however, the resort does benefit from its proximity to Kelowna airport and it is only an hour’s drive away and there are regular scheduled services to and from the airport.
